Braidwood Quilt Event 2009: 27-29 November

The Braidwood Quilt Event 2009 runs from 27-29 November with the "airing of the quilts" taking place on Saturday 28 November only.

$1,000 Acquisitive Art Award – Textile artists are invited to create a quilt inspired by the work of Australian printmaker and artist Hall Thorpe (1874 – 1947). The award is sponsored by Cheryl Hannah, Director of Fyre Gallery, Braidwood, in conjunction with an exhibition of Hall Thorpe’s work from November 13 to December 21

Camden Country Quilters Exhibition: 1-2 August

"Let's Celebrate" is the 20th anniversary of the annual exhibition of Camden Country Quilters.

Dates: 9.30am-4pm 1 and 2 August 2009
Venue: A.H.and I hall in Argyle St Camden
Admission: $6.00

There will be a raffle quilt and tickets may be purchased at the door. Funds raised go to local charities. There will be many beautiful quilts on display, this year we are asking every member to submit a quilt to celebrate this great occasion. Of course there will be a table or two laden with handmade goodies lovingly crafted by our members. There will also be stalls selling fabrics, patterns, kits, sewing bits and pieces and antique quilts. There will be a cafe which will run all day serving teas coffees homemade slices and cakes. As usual there will be sandwiches and soup available for lunch.

Country Tutors Workshop Program

This is a reminder that the Guild has established the Country Tutors Workshop Program for 2009/2010.

At the time of applying, the applicant must have been a member of the Guild (individual or group) for at least one full year and live in NSW. All workshop participants do not have to be Guild members. Application for funds should be made at least six months in advance of your workshop. The tutor must be domiciled in NSW or Canberra or be in NSW or Canberra already at the time of the workshop. The workshop participants must cover the tutor’s workshop fees themselves.

For your assistance, the Guild website has a list of experienced and Guild-accredited tutors available for teaching in country New South Wales but applicants are not required to engage a tutor from this list.

Calling for Applications: 2010 Guild Scholarship Program

The Guild’s scholarship program has provision to distribute financial support to one or more members during 2009/10. A maximum of $5,000 per annum is available to be shared between two or more successful applicants; maximum to any single applicant is $3,000.

Consideration will be given to submissions from individuals or groups with continuous Guild membership of at least three (3) years. Written applications (hard copy not e-mail) must be sent to the Vice President at the Guild office address by 28 August 2009. Upcoming Market Day at Burwood

The next meeting at Burwood on Saturday 15 August is market day. Members are welcome to sell their wares from 11am. Trading must cease during meeting but traders may continue during afternoon tea if desired.

Art to Wear 2009 - Black & White Slideshow

Enjoy these image from Art to Wear 2009 coordinated by Maureen Locke-Maclean and Helen Lancaster featuring members of the Quilters Guild of NSW Inc. It is an exhibition of garments displaying superb technical skill and artistic merit in the form of ‘Wearable Art’ which can express all forms of surface design and textile application to give each garment the artist’s personal signature. The theme for Art to Wear 2010 is "Classic Oz Rocks" with a designated palette of Ochre 70%, Teal 15% & Indigo 10% your choice 5%”. Entry is open to all individual Guild members. Call for Volunteers: Sydney Stitches & Craft Show

The Guild is proposing to have a display and information stand (Stand 126) at the Stitches & Craft Show, Rosehill Racecourse, 19-23 August 2009 and is looking for member volunteers.

The show is open 10am to 5pm each day and we need at least 20 volunteers for three to four hours each per day. Hand work is optional, seating provided. (If you are travelling by public transport, there is a rail station at the venue and Bus 909 is available from Parramatta Station.)

If you are a Guild member and would like to join the volunteer roster to promote the Guild on this occasion, please call the office on 9283 3737. An entry badge will be posted to you prior to the show if there are sufficient volunteers for the stand to go ahead.

Social Meeting at Campbelltown: 19 July

The next Sunday social meeting for 2009 is this Sunday, 19 July. At 10.30am there will be a hands on workshop on crazy patchwork. Ring Yvonne Line on 02 4628 1170 for a requirements list.

The venue is Campbelltown Arts Centre. All members, and friends and interested persons, welcome. Gallery opens at 10.00am , Show and tell at 11.30, Café for lunch or bring your own, Guest Speaker, 1.00pm, Afternoon Tea provided, meeting closes at 3.00 pm, Gallery closes at 4.00pm. Wheelchair access, Sculpture Garden, Art Gallery, Japanese Garden.

Guild Quiltaway Weekend: 11-13 September

Come join us for almost three days of nothing but quilting, eating, drinking, laughing and shopping with other Guild memebers. No classes - bring whatever you want (by hand or machine) and enjoy the company of other charming quilters. There's shopping at Mittagong, Bowral, Berrima, Robertson or Berry ir you feel so included. There is also a swimming pool and tennis courts for the exercise-minded.

Friday to Sunday, two nights and all meals for Twin- $280, SIngle $340 and Triple -$260. All prices are per person. Note this is a special quilters rate and a reduction to last year's rates. Please send your deposit of $50 with the completed booking form (see page 8 of the June newsletter)to the Guild office. Full payment due by 27 July 2009.

Illawarra Quilters Inc invite you to four days of workshops featuring drawing, design collage and stitch. Four experienced and prize winning tutors Beth Miller, Carolyn Sullivan and Beth & Trevor Reid. WRAP Unwrapped Exhibition: 7 - 30 July 2009

The WRAP Unwrapped Textile Exhibition is on at NSW Parliament House, Macquarie Street Sydney from 7 July to 30 July (Monday-Friday 9.30am to 4pm). Free illustrated talks will be held on Friday, 17 July and 24 July at 11am.
