History Week : Quilt Connections

How the power of quilting connects communities

This is the topic of a seminar being presented as part of the NSW History week 2012 programme, exploring how the art of quilt-making and thread work has connected communities in times of need or remembrance.
The guest speaker line up, includes respected quilt historian Dr Annette Gero,  author and convenor of the Quilt Study Group of NSW Karen Fail and members of the curating staff at the Powerhouse Museum.
Participants will join a behind the scenes tour to view selected works, as well as learn about quilt conservation and storage.
Come and hear about the Australian AIDS Memorial Quilt, military uniform quilts and "Aunt Clara's Quilt" in a seminar that is presented in partnership with Powerhouse Museum Regional Services and the History Council of NSW.
