30th Anniversary Photographic Book

Urgent Reminder
As advertised in The Template Feb 2013, a hardcover book of photos of all quilts in the 2012 Sydney Quilt Show has been produced.  This is indeed a professional publication and a delightful reminder of what was an extremely successful 30th anniversary members' exhibition. If you were an exhibitor or had any connection to last year's show, then this is a "must" for the coffee table or studio!

The final date for ordering of this lovely book has been extended to 28 March 2013.

The Order Form for this publication was in The Template.  Alernatively, you can download the Quilt Show 2012 Book Order Form as a PDF.

Quilt Images : Policy.

Many quilt enthusiasts visited this years Quilt Show accompanied by their camera!
The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc. approves the desire to take photos of the exhibition for one's own records only.
There is a Photographic Policy that States :

Quilt photography is permitted for personal use only.  Images must NOT be published online or in other media unless you have the consent of the relevant quilt maker.  If you wish to photograph and publish for commercial purposes, please apply to the Membership Desk for special permission.

Many online media users (Facebook and Bloggers) are accompanying Quilt Show reports with photos of quilts plus a snap of the accompanying swing tag showing Maker's name and Quilt Inspiration / construction details alongside.
The addition of these details in another photo does not negate the policy that quilt images must not be used.
All quiltmakers must have given personal approval for any image of their quilt being journalised in any public on-line forum.

Sydney Quilt Show 2012 Prize Winners Gallery

Congratulations to Ming Hsu who was awarded Best of Show and first prize in the Predominantly Applique (Professional) category for her quilt Long Fong (Chinese Dragon & Phoenix).  She writes:

Since I became a quilter in Australia in 2006, I wanted to make a quilt reflecting my Taiwanese-Chinese culture. I was inspired by Chinese symbolism for wealth, good luck and prosperity, the Imperial Dragon (Long) and the Phoenix (Fong).
You can view Ming Hsu's quilt, along with images of all of the other prize winning quilts from the 30th annual members' exhibition, online in the 2012 Sydney Quilt Show Prize Winners Gallery.

Quilt Show Divas

The quilters were finished,
their fingers, quite numb,
Judges had judged
and quilts were now hung.

A soft buzz from the merchants
was all one could hear,
as Maree announced proudly
"It's our 30th Year!"

The sponsors were thanked
the excitement was clear,
With winners t'be announced,
doubtless misty, with tears.

Maree gave the mike
to those illustrious judges,
Attendees grew quiet,
but there were plenty of nudges!

Judge Number 3 said
"This year's been the best,
Your committee is tireless
New South Wales is blessed!

With Judge Number 2, we feel
we've had so much fun,
But the winners can be congratulated
by Judge Number 1"

She stepped to the dais,
Anxious entrants held their gasp,
Would't be their turn this year?
Or those winners from the past!

Two Curlewis Quilters,
their chins all a quiver,
nearly swallowed their dentures,
when announced.....'Collaborative' Winners!

Then, all but one ribbon
had been duly presented,
t'was now 'Best of Show' and
who knows what was expected?

The Show Hall fell quiet,.
everyone pricked up their ears,
Which glorious quilt's win
would cap this 'Pearly' year?

It was the most unexpected
of unexpected happenings,
The 'Best of Show' Rosette
was pinned, to loud clapping....

An 'Art' quilt Trapunto-ed
from two gals whom you know,
with seed pearls encrusted,
has won 'Best of Show' !

Good ol' Merle and Miss Shirl
already be-ribbonned
whispered "it cant be us....
the judge surely, is kidding?"

But Yes! They had Won....
Curlewis' Quilting Queens,
Their entry 'The Pearly Bride'
Hanging central to be seen.

"Magnificent", Maree cheered,
"Now let us once more clap,
such a fabulous Exhibition
from these ladies kiddies, and chaps"

So come to Darling Harbour
and attend THIS year's Quilt Show....
It's a 'Pearler' I tell you,
You've just got to go!

Plain blocks are also requested so that visitors to The Sydney Quilt Show 2012 can add their names.

'The Pearly Bride' *

No, NOT the title of any of the 2012 Quilt Show Entries ...

Deborah Laurie and her trusty 'Maids Of Honour' have been hard at work collating all the details of this year's 30th Anniversary entries.

All secrets are remaining 'veiled' until 13 June, however, and as with most Volunteer gigs, helping - out is always 'married' with delightful rewards.

Can you volunteer please, at this year's Sydney Quilt Show?
A number of shift times are available, with Thursday,
Friday Afternoon , Saturday and Sunday still requiring Quilters
to 'man the desk and don the gloves'

All assistance will be gratefully received and rewarded with friendship, a Volunteer Quilt Show Badge and a Catalogue.

Thankyou!

* Nothing to stop a few Pearly People turning up at The Exhibition Dinner, however.

Lick those Needles*

Have you entered a quilt for the upcoming Sydney Quilt Show and still need to sew on that label / hanging sleeve or stitch up the binding?

Exhibition Secretary Deborah Laurie, has announced that ALL entries have been accepted, with acceptance letters being mailed approx. May 1st.

There are 49 days left to lick those needles* and smooth those seams!

*.... another "Pearls of Wisdom"...some quilters suggest that whilst threading a needle, it is more productive to lick the needle, rather than the thread.
