The 2012 Contemporary Quilt Textile Exhibition : Regeneration

This is a free exhibition that will be on view until 4 June, showcasing the Contemporary Art Quilts being created by members of the NSW Quilters' Guild as well as those from interstate textile artists.

Whilst finished works are highlighted, there will also be the artist's creative journey, for viewers to explore.

One of the delights of this exhibition will be the complementary inclusion of individual display boxes, creating an added visual explanation of the processes and inspiration that each of these textile artists were challenged by.

If you have often wondered "where did they come up with that?" then this holistic display will help viewers see how and why artworks are envisaged in their embryonic form and then created.

Floor talks by some of the exhibiting artists will be held on Sunday 13 May at 3pm and these will further the viewers knowledge of process and product.

Special Exhibition Tours are also being held, scheduled for Sunday 27 May and Sunday 3 June.

This exciting collaboration between The Quilters' Guild Of NSW and Manly Art Gallery and Museum has resulted from the desire to have a specially themed, curated and specific outcome exhibition, creating a challenge for any quilt and textile artist. Those who have been curated in to this exhibition have been working extremely hard to create their best work.

The theme of "Regeneration" is explored with varying fascinating responses, all works excelling in their attention to detail and effect and using a variety of techniques.

This promises to be a visually and intellectually creative adventure for all those who visit!

Regeneration Exhibition:

Regeneration: Contemporary Quilt Textiles 2012  will be open free to the public from 27 April to 4 June 2012 at the Manly Art Gallery & Museum at West Esplanade Reserve, Manly.  All are invited to the opening by the curator, Jennifer Sanders,  at 6-8pm, Friday 27 April 2012.

The exhibition showcases some of the best work to be seen in the art quilt world. It will be an opportunity, not only see the finished artwork, but in most cases, to also see the processes used by the artists to achieve their vision and response to the theme ‘Regeneration’, via individual display boxes. This will include the artists’ sources of inspiration, photos, sketches, samples of fabrics and techniques.

There is a full exhibition program including, on Sunday 29 April 2012 at 3pm, In Conversation will be held at the Gallery, with Jennifer Sanders, who will discuss the exhibition and artworks with exhibiting artists - Judy Hooworth, Dianne Firth, Alison Muir, Judy Nikoleski, Jo Steele, Jody Abel, Mirjam Aigner, Amanda Daly, Alison Levingston, Kylie Ramsay and Antonia Valentine.

Manly Art Gallery and Museum 27 April - 4 June 2012

A collaboration between The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc. and Manly Art Gallery and Museum

The New Quilt exhibition has been hosted by Manly Art Gallery and Museum in collaboration with the Guild for the past twenty years. For the twenty first year, it was agreed that a new vision for the exhibition be achieved. To this end, a decision was made to have a curated, themed exhibition with specific, visual selection criteria as the basis of being accepted into the exhibition. This is a move away from the past and it is hoped that it will offer opportunities for all textile artists to enter a quilt.

Selection criteria

1. All quilts must be proposed new work.
2. A 100 - 150 word statement, outlining the artist's response to the theme, "Regeneration".
3. Details of the design progression and colours, including sketches and drawings.
4. Up to five (5) images of previous works.
5. Materials to be used.
6. Dimensions of the work.

A non-refundable entry fee of $45.00 must accompany your entry, which covers up to two (2) quilts.
Completed and signed entry forms, including the six (6) requirements.
The closing date for entries is 25 July 2011.

Selection

Selection will be made on the basis or originality and innovative use of media. The curator's decision will be final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into. Entrants whose work has been accepted will be notified by mail/email and informed of delivery instructions.
