Report on April Hexie Madness QSG event

The Quilt Study Group of NSW (a sub-committee of The Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc.) held their April meeting at The Powerhouse Museum on Saturday April 24^th 2010. All members of the Guild are welcome to attend and there are no longer additional fees. 

This event titled “Hexie Madness” was designed as a giant ‘Show and Tell’ featuring hexagon quilts in all shapes and sizes. Members were asked to bring and talk about their hexagon quilts. The turn out was most impressive with over 40 participants and many, many more quilts. Brigitte Giblin (who has been a previous guest speaker for the Sydney Quilt Study Group) was unable to attend but kindly sent 4 of her recent quilts plus a number of quilts by her students. They all feature hexagons, some in conjunction with appliqué and other paper piecing designs.

Jennifer Corkish brought a number of her quilts, again incorporating hexagons within the design and she even had a few new and unfinished designs for students to anticipate making in future classes. A number of her students also brought along their hexie quilts made in Jennifer’s classes.  

Pam Curtis could not attend but generously sent her prize winning hexie quilts for us to look at.

Daphne Massie brought the first block in her project to replicate an old quilt found by her daughter; hopefully she will bring more blocks to future meetings.

The highlight of the show was the quilt made by Nolene McGuran which won Best of Show at the Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc. quilt show some years ago. Unfortunately we did have any quilt stands so we couldn’t show this masterpiece of design to its fullest potential but at the end we laid it out on the floor so everyone could get a good look.

At the end of the meeting the room was ringed with tables piled high with hexie quilts. I was so busy running around I didn’t get the chance to count them or to get the names of many of the makers - my apologies. Most of the members of the audience were fans of “Hexie” quilts, and those who weren’t left the meeting as converts. For example, on a recent Guild bus trip to Wagga Wagga, Margy Syrette was surrounded by quilters making hexagons of various sizes so she decided to try her hand at doing some. She was delighted to present her completed quilt.

There was so much to inspire us with the variety of design and fabric. It was a great day. Thank you to all who came along for bringing along your hexie masterpieces and helping publicise this most wonderful madness! Sandra Lyons.

Art to Wear 2011: Twitchers all of a twitter - Aussie Bird

Art to Wear is a juried exhibition of wearable art presented by The Quilters' Guild of NSW as part of the annual members' exhibition at the Sydney Quilt Show. The theme for 2011 is "Twitchers all of a twitter -- Aussie Bird" which features the colours (again of Australia)of our Rainbow Lorikeet. The designated palette is Greens 70%, Blues 15% Yellow 5% Red 5% your choice 5%” (ref ‘What Bird Is That’ page 422 Rainbow Lorikeet).

Fabric Colouring with Gai Rayner: 19 and 20 November

Fabric Colouring with Gai Rayner

Gai Rayner is a trained instructor with Genesis Creations. She enjoys experimenting with colour and is always pleasantly surprised at the results she can achieve using very simple techniques. She teaches fabric colouring and silk painting using Liquid Radiance paints. Liquid Radiance is paint NOT a dye. It is Australian made and owned and the paint is stable in the fabric once it is dry – no rinsing is needed unless salt has been used in a technique. It will colour all fabrics – cottons, synthetics, wool, linen.

Some techniques covered in the workshop include salting, heliography, colour tonings and Genesis Creations tie-dyeing. You will also learn to colour lace, cotton threads and embroidery cottons. By the end of the workshop you will have produced some stunning coloured fabrics using easy to master methods.

Cost will be $70 per person per day, with a minimum of ten students per workshop. Paint kits will be available for purchase at the workshop. A full kit including eight colours is $115. A starter kit including three colours of your choice is $50.

Textile Conservation & Restoration Workshop

This half-day workshop with Alan R Tremain is FREE to all financial Guild members . This hands on workshop has been organised as part of the Guild’s Annual Scholarship recipient program for 2009 and is being hosted by the Guild’s Quilt Study Group sub committee. This workshop will look at the practical implementation of Conservation and Restoration techniques for domestic textiles. Participants will need to bring along a quilt, quilt top or other textile to work on or be advised upon plus general sewing notions. Each participant should make direct contact with the tutor prior to the event in case specific work tools are required. The tutor will have available conservation items for purchase by participants.

2010 Guild Challenge Quilts Due 27 August

The 2010 Guild challenge closes on 27 August 2010.  This challenge is fabric rather than theme-based and each entry must incorporate the mystery challenge fabric. This fabric is available from the Guild office for $2.20. If you would like the fabric to be posted to you, please send your details to the Guild office along with 5x55 cent stamps.

Hunters Hill Quilt Show: 13-15 August 2010

The 2010 Hunters Hill Quilt Show will be held on Friday 13th – Sunday 15th August 2010 10:00am –4:30pm. The show is held in the Hunters Hill Town Hall, Alexandra Street, Hunters Hill.

Visitors are invited to browse, admire and critique the exhibited 80 unique quilts made by members of the group. They can buy new and old quilts, add to their stash at the Material Obsession quilt shop and finally, stop for tea or coffee and home made goodies.

One of the special features of the 2010 show is the Wagga exhibition. This features quilts traditionally made of necessity and from materials found in the Australian home including wool and clothing scraps. The end result of today’s wagga is a textile piece that perfectly compliments contemporary interior designs.

The show raffle provides an opportunity to win a choice of two raffle quilts, one traditional in design, Rhapsody in Red, a red and white red work quilt and the other a contemporary design, Sunrise, a riot of funky flowers.

The proceeds of the 2010 show will be donated to Giant Steps Sydney: a school catering specifically for children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Hunters Hill Quilters have had an ongoing relationship with Giant Steps Sydney for several years contributing quilts to raffle and auction at their fundraising events.

David Koch, co-host of the popular Channel 7’s Sunrise program, finance expert and author is this year’s judge. David will choose 10 quilts, judged on the basis of aesthetic appeal, a ‘best of show’ and 9 judge’s choice.

You do not need to pay an entry fee to the Powerhouse Musuem if you say you are going to the Quilt Study Group meeting.

Irene Manion is an exceptional textile artist who enjoys using modern technology in her work. In the 70s her work consisted of wall hangings depicting the landscape of the Blue Mountains using batik and developed complex multilayered dying and waxing techniques. In the last decade she has moved into working with modern technology. She creates dye sublimation prints of images developed from her own digital photos and drawings which are modified in programmes such as Photoshop and Illustrator. They are then commercially printed onto fabric. The next stage involves either computerised machine embroidery or free machine embroidery onto the digitally printed surface. Some quilting or 3-D development of the image is then used to give texture and depth to the final piece.

Classic Oz Rocks! Art to Wear 2010 @ Gosford Regional Gallery

The exhibition of Classic Oz Rocks continue at Gosford Regional Gallery until Sunday 25 July.

Based on the colours of the Australian Outback, this exhibition of fashion design draws on some of Australia’s most talented textile artists. All garments designed for this exhibition have been created using a limited colour palette. Held annually as part of the Sydney Quilt Show in Darling Harbour, this is the first time that the Art to Wear section has travelled outside Sydney. This year’s exhibition features guest artist Cheryl Bridgart from Adelaide.

The New Quilt 2010: Artist Floor Talks

The New Quilt 2010: Contemporary Quilt Textiles exhibition continues at Manly Art Gallery & Museum until Sunday 25 July (open Tuesday-Sunday 10am - 5pm).  For extra insights into the exhibition, you are invited to join the artist floor talks at 3pm on Sunday, 18 July and 3pm, Sunday 25 July 2010.

Market Day @ Burwood: 17 July

The next Guild meeting is on Saturday, 17 July at the Burwood RSL ( 96 Shaftsbury Avenue Burwood). It's market day so there will be lots of quilting and other goodies for you to peruse, and maybe buy! (Please call the office if you wish to book a sales table - $5 fee.) Market day commences at 11am. In addition:

• 11am demonstration by Catherine Porter from The Craft Mailbox, a generous quilt show sponsor.
• 1pm: Guild general meeting followed by guest speaker Carole Douglas: Carole is an artist, writer and community educator who also specialises in Indian textiles and in particular those from Kachchh in Gujarat. She works as a designer and her products are found in the Victoria and Albert Museum shop in London, the Manly Art Gallery and Museum as well as other outlets. She regularly conducts tours in India, also works with artisans on product development and issues of sustailability. She will talk to the Guild about traditional and contemporary quilting in Kachchh.

Weekend Activities: 19 & 20 June 2010

The following activities take place each day this weekend Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 June at the Sydney Quilt Show:

Opening of The New Quilt 2010: 18 June-25 July 2010

The New Quilt 2010 is an exhibition of contemporary Australian quilt textiles presented by The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc in partnership with Manly Art Gallery & Museum. The exhibition will be launched officially on Friday 18 June at 6pm by its curator, leading textile artist and art academic Dr Dianne Firth, Associate Professor & Head of Landscape Architecture in the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Canberra.

Sydney Quilt Show 2010 Prize Winners List

s part of the awards ceremony we remembered the late Narelle Grieve (1939-2009).   Not only has her contribution to the quilting community been recognised with the Narelle Grieve Award for Amateur Hand Quilting which was won by Shirley Merriel,  but Narelle's own quilt Legacy won the Retaining the Tradition Award sponsored by Australian Patchwork & Quilting.

Sydney Quilt Show 2010: Best of Show: Kay Haerland

At this morning's awards ceremony, Bernina Best of Show 2010 was awarded to talented pictorial quiltmaker Kay Haerland for her work Under the Canopy (119 x 154 cm) :


Kay remarks:  There is a magic in the sun-dappled  Australian Rainforest. Life is abundant, things fluttering, buzzing, rustling, croaking, warbling, rippling and whispering just out of sight. Yet there is a stillness... A suspension  of events until you look away.

As it happens, Kay is also one of the guest exhibitors at Sydney Quilt Show 2010.  She will be presenting daily floor talks reviewing a selection of her works at 10am and 2pm. Come along and learn more about how Kay creates her wonderful quilts.

The Sydney Quilt Show 2010 opens on Wednesday, 16 June with an awards ceremony at 9.30am. A complimentary short-form catalogue will be available at the show. This flyer contains special award and category details, sponsor information, an exhibitor listing and a layout diagram. A label setting out a short quilt description will also be attached to each quilt in the members' exhibition. Opening of the New Quilt 2010

The New Quilt 2010 is an exhibition of 26 contemporary quilt textiles presented by Manly Art Gallery & Museum  in partnership with The Quilters’ Guild of NSW, Inc.  Featured textile artists are:

Art to Wear 2010: Classic Oz Rocks!

As part of the annual members' exhibition, The Quilters Guild of NSW is proud to present Classic Oz Rocks! extraordinary garments in a palette of ochre (70%), teal (15%), indigo (10%) and the artist's choice of colour (5%).

Featured artists are: Anne van der Kley, Carroll Pichelmann, Carole Redlich, Cheryl Bridgart, Elaine Sale, Grace Levis, Helen Lancaster, Helen McGavin Smith, Julie Thornton, Kerryn Taylor, Lynda Worthington, Rosemary Long, Shirley McKernan, Toni Evering, Virginia Koster,  and Maureen Locke-McLean.

Demonstrations of techniques featured in the Art to Wear garments will take place daily at the Sydney Quilt Show: 10-11am, 12-1pm and 2-3pm

Following the quilt show, Classic Oz Rocks will be on exhibition at Gosford Regional Gallery from 26 June - 25 July 2010.

Sydney Quilt Show - one week to go!

The Sydney Quilt Show is an annual members' exhibition presented by The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc in conjunction with the Craft & Quilt Fair at the Sydney Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, Sydney.  The doors open at 9am on Wednesday 16 June 2010 with an official opening and awards ceremony at 9.30am.


Highlights of the Sydney Quilt Show in 2010 include

• an exhibition of around 300 member quilts;
• What Tickles Your Fancy 2010 Guild challenge quilts;
• Art to Wear 2010 - Classic Oz Rocks extraordinary garments in a palette of ochre (70%), teal (15%), indigo (10%) and the artist's choice of colour (5%). Demonstrations of techniques featured in the Art to Wear garments will take place daily: 10-11am, 12-1pm and 2-3pm;
• Art to Wear Retrospective Guest Exhibitor - Cheryl Bridgart;
• Best of Australia quilts sponsored by Bernina;
• a selection of traditional style quilts by guest exhibitor Gai Haines - daily floor talk at 11.30am;
• a selection of pictorial quilts by guest exhibitor and Guild accredited teacher Kay Haerland - twice daily floor talks at 10am and 2pm;
• Snapshots an exhibition of contemporary quilts by ZIG ZAG ;
• Community Quilts - demonstrations of the process of making a quilt from start to finish will take place in the community quilts demonstration area throughout the show; and
• Kidskills: Saturday 19 June 10am and 1pm and Sunday 20 July 10am and 1pm. The Sydney Quilt Show is a source of inspiration for many a would-be quiltmaker including children. The weekend "Kidskills" program is a free activity aimed at introducing children to the delights of colour, fabric and block designs.

The quilt show will be open from 9am-5pm daily, 16-20 June 2010.  The Guild welcomes all members and visitors.

Wanted: Photographer for Quilt Show Archives

The Guild has secured a photographer to record images of the prize winning quilts as they are selected on judging day.  However, we still require a photographer for the balance of approximately 200 quilts for the Guild's archive records.  If you are available on set-up day, Tuesday 15 June and have the capacity to take reasonable (straight and square!), high resolution quilt images, please contact the Guild Webmaster.

12x12 Artist Floor Talk @ Gosford: 2pm 5 June 2010

The exhibition of the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project continues at Gosford Regional Gallery until 23 June 2010. One of the Australian "Twelves", Brenda Gael Smith will be presenting an artist floor talk at the gallery this Saturday, 5 June at 2pm.  Free admission - all welcome!

Sydney Quilt Show 2010 Countdown

In less than two weeks, Hall 3 at the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre will be buzzing with Guild volunteers setting up for Sydney Quilt Show 2010. It's not too late for you to send in your completed Volunteer Form or to contact the office on (02) 9283 3737 with your availability. The quilt show is a significant undertaking and a strong pool of volunteers will ensure that the team is fresh and enthusiastic to carry out the following important tasks:

• set up (Tuesday 15 June) especially in the morning;
• floor monitoring/white glove duties;
• membership renewals and inquiries;
• raffle ticket sales;
• demonstrating quilting skills;
• treasurer assistance; and
• take down (5.00-7.30pm Sunday, 20 June).

We are especially looking for assistance with take down.

If you are entering a quilt in this year's show, it's time to check that your quilt is correctly labelled with a hanging sleeve/velcro strip (as applicable) and to make contact with your "Drop Off Lady" regarding delivery of your quilt. Quilts must be delivered to Drop Off Ladies by Wednesday, 9 June.

2010 Quilt Show Raffle

Twelve by Twelve @ Gosford Regional Gallery

After their world premiere at the Australasian Quilt Convention, the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project will next be exhibiting at Gosford Regional Gallery from 28 May to 23 June 2010. One of the Australian "Twelves", Guild member Brenda Gael Smith is giving a floor talk at the gallery at 2pm on Saturday, 5 June.

In addition, Brenda is presenting an informative slideshow about Twelve by Twelve at the next Guild meeting at Burwood RSL on Saturday 22 May 2010. Visitors are welcome and everyone is encouraged to bringing along a 12x12in quilt to share in a mini-exhibition at the meeting.

NSW Shining Light: Freyah Howland-Davis

In conjunction with the Australasian Quilt Convention, Expertise Events presents a series of special awards to promote patchwork and quilting in Australia, and to encourage and recognise contributions made by individuals in the quilting world.  The Shining Light Award goes to a quilter under 18 years of age and is an encouragement award for junior quilters.  This year the Shining Light Award was presented to junior Guild Member, Freyah Howland-Davis.  Freyah won first prize in the Junior Quiltmaker B (13-18 years) category at the 2008 Sydney Quilt Show with this quilt entitled Log Cabin Dream.

Hexagon Madness - Old and New: 24 April 2-4pm

Join many other hexagon lovers at the Powerhouse Museum to pour over antique hexagon quilts, be enthralled by the many modern interpretations of the hexagon and to learn more. We hope to have several quilts from well-known quilt makers for you to see up close.

This event organised by the Quilt Study Group (part of The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc.) will be held in the Powerhouse Learning Centre on Saturday 24th April 2010 from 2pm to 4pm.
Bring along any of your hexie quilts, old or new, for us to see. Entry is free for Guild members and afternoon tea will be provided. Access to the Powerhouse Museum is via the walkway over from Chinatown or by walking from Central Station. (See the Powerhouse Museum transport page for details.)

If you contact the event owner, Sandra Lyons on 9589 2537 beforehand it is possible to arrange for car parking in the Powerhouse's parking area for disabled drivers. Or you can use the drop off area near the entrance to the car park which provides easy access to Level 2 where our events are held.

Textile artist Dorothy Caldwell speaks at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney - Out of the Ordinary: Textiles in the Everyday.

One of the wonderful qualities of cloth is that it wears out, breaks down and is continuously being re-made into something new. Stitching, mending and patching create a surface of unintended beauty and the sense of “lives lived”. It is from these ordinary practices that Dorothy Caldwell has developed the vocabulary of marks that she uses in the making of her large fabric constructions. The talk will address this aspect of traditional textiles and how it has been used as a basis for Caldwell’s work.

Dorothy Caldwell is a graduate of Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and maintains an active international exhibition and teaching schedule. She has carried out research in Japan, India, and Australia on textile traditions and is the recipient of grants and awards including the prestigious Bronfman Award given to one Canadian craftsperson each year. Her work is included in many permanent collections including the American Museum of Art and Design, Canadian Museum of Civilization, The Carlton and Reta Lewis Collection in Washington D.C., The Canadian Consulate Bangkok Thailand, and the International Quilt Museum and Study Center University of Nebraska.

Dorothy is visiting Australia at the invitation of The Australian Forum for Textile Arts and teaching at their Orange Forum (NSW) in April.

Teacher Accreditation Information Day: 8 May 2010

289 entries from over 200 individual and group members have been received for the 2010 Sydney Quilt Show.  ALL valid entries have been accepted. Formal acceptance letters with important details about the delivery of your quilts will be posted out at the beginning of May. In the meantime, keep on putting the finishing details on your quilts. 1000 Artisan Textiles

1930s Quilts Event Report

On the 27th February 2010 at the Powerhouse Museum, Jennie Burton gave the Quilt Study Group of NSW members and friends a 30 minute talk about 1930s quilts. She brought along some 1930s quilts, quilt tops and feed sacks from her collection for us to see. She told us that she is drawn to these quilts for their colourful scrappiness and put the making of these quilts into historical perspective, referring to the influence of the depression years of the 1930s, changes in fabric dyes, the mass production of bed coverings and then the revival of quilt making between the wars.

During the Depression the number of advertisements, patterns and articles about quilts in newspapers increased so that many women had scrapbooks containing planned quilts (not dissimilar to us now). Popular patterns included the Dresden Plate, Butterfly, Grandmother’s Flower Garden, Sunbonnet Sue, and Double Wedding Ring because they all involved using up fabric scraps. “Use up, wear out, make do or do without” was the motto for these women. Quilting in the 1930s also provided a way for some to make money by designing quilt patterns, making and selling quilts and quilt kits and by winning prizes at quilt shows. Quilts were also a softer side of the Great Depression and the importance of sewing and quilting bees took the quilters’ minds off their troubles.

The feed sacks, which provided cheap fabric for the 1930s quilts, were originally made from plain calico and were hand sewn by the farmers with hand written labels. Later they were sewn by machine and had pre-printed labels that had to be soaked off in order to use them. The feed sack bag and sack manufacturers then came up with the idea of using patterned fabrics thus leading to their use in making curtains, dresses, quilts and even underwear. The finer grades of feed sacks were used for holding sugar or flour, the coarser ones for corn or chicken feed. Now they are discovering whole attics full of feed sacks which are coming onto the market.

Jennie then showed us some American feed sacks which prompted Annette Gero to show us her Australian feed sack. Among the many wonderful quilts from Jennie’s collection we saw one unusual quilt with black baskets, another with a yellow background and a vibrant ‘Trip Around the World’ quilt with such perfectly matching fabric that she believes it could only have been from a quilt kit.

Feature Display Quilts @ Sydney Royal Easter Show

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW and the Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc are showcasing patchwork and quilting as the feature display in the Arts Pavillion at the 2010 Royal Easter Show. In addition to the quilts entered in the show, there will be a display in the centre of the pavillion and demonstrations of different quilting techniques. The Royal Easter Show continues until Wednesday 14 April 2010. Come along and say hello!

Lisa Walton Jewel Pearce Patterson International Quilt Teacher Scholarship 2010

Congratulations to Guild member Lisa Walton who has been awarded the Jewel Pearce Patterson International Quilt Teacher Scholarship, Houston, USA for 2010.

Jewel Pearce Patterson was one of the founders of Quilts, Inc. and the mother of Karey Bresenhan who is the current president of this organization. Quilts Inc. sponsors three major quilt festivals and two quilt markets each year. In 1990, this organization developed a scholarship for quilting teachers and one teacher is chosen for this prestigious award. This year is even more special as it would have been the 100th birthday of Jewel Patterson and Lisa feels especially honoured.

The scholarship covers airfare and accommodation and a full program of workshops at the 2010 Houston Quilt Market and Festival and is an opportunity of a lifetime. In 2011 Lisa will be required to mount an exhibition of her work and that of her students at the Houston Quilt Festival and it also travels to the other Festivals. What an extraordinary opportunity to show her work to so many people.

Australia’s history is retold through patchwork quilts in this exhibition drawn from national, state and private collections. The fabric scraps, patterns and needlework conjure memories of past times and allow an examination of the social histories of countless ordinary and some extraordinary people which would otherwise never have been told—Governor’s wives, wealthy shop owners, farmer’s wives, gold rush immigrants, prisoners of war, and all the mums that made their children’s clothes and never threw anything away.

This exhibition includes rare and unique quilts displayed with contextual photographs and period furniture and has been curated exclusively for the Ipswich Art Gallery by Australian Quilt Historian Dr Annette Gero.

SKINT! Making do in the Great Depression: 27 March - 25 July

A new exhibition SKINT! Making do in the Great Depression opens on 27 March at the Museum of Sydney and for Seniors Week, during the weekend of 27 & 28 March, seniors receive free admission to the exhibition.

Skint! Making do in the Great Depression explores the spirit and flavour of life in Sydney in the 1930s: the community spirit and political activism, everyday life and key events and personalities of the period. It brings together evocative images, objects, oral histories and film to help us understand the story of Sydney in the Great Depression.

Quilt historian, Dr Annette Gero will be talking about waggas at the Museum of Sydney on Sunday, 18 April from 2-3pm..

Proposal Requirements

• Artists may submit up to 3 works for selection. Entry is free
• Works must not exceed 30x30x30cm in size but may be smaller
• Submissions must include a CV or brief artist’s biography and Jpeg files or photographs of the works for selection
• Include title/s, medium, dimensions, price including 20% commission
• Submissions must be received by 5pm Friday 14 May 2010. All submissions will be subject to a selection process
• Artists will be notified of the selection by 21/5/10
• Selected works must be delivered to the Gallery by Monday 7 June or by prior arrangement. Artists are responsible for all delivery transport or postage costs
• Artworks will be returned by Express Post at the conclusion of the exhibition on 12/7/10

2010 World Quilt Competition

Australian traditional and contemporary quilters have the opportunity to enter the 2010 World Quilt Competition and have their work tour in the United States from August to November.

The World Quilt Competition entries will premier at the World Quilt Show New England in Manchester, New Hampshire and then be exhibited at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza XVII, the Pacific International Quilt Festival XIX in Santa Clara, California and the World Quilt Show Florida in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Innovative & traditional entries compete for a range of awards with cash prizes. These include Best of World, Traditional first, second and third, Innovative first, second and third, Best Use of Colour, Best Hand Workmanship, Best Machine Workmanship, Best of Country if the country has 10 entries and Viewer’s Choice. In 2009 Australian Linda Steele received the Best of Country with her quilt “Crazy about Spring”.

Machine Quilting Workshop: 12 & 13 August 2010

This workshop with Deborah Louie will be for advanced beginners and intermediate machine quilters at the Campbelltown Arts Centre on 12 and 13 August 2010 (Thursday/Friday) Beginner machine quilters will not be accepted. Maximum bookings will be 12/13 participants. Minimum bookings 10.

You must have your own machine. The boom gate can be opened on request for easy access, if required. Set up time is 9.30am. The tutor will start promptly at 10.00am. Tutoring will finish at 3.30pm. Gallery closes at 4.00. Lunch time will be at the tutor’s discretion. There is a cafe on the premises. Tea/coffee/soft drink and biscuits will be available all day. Please bring your own cup.

Come along to the Burwood meeting on Saturday, 22 May 2010 to see Brenda Smith's presentation about the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project. 12x12 inches (30x30cm) is a remarkably versatile format and you are invited to bring along your own 12x12in quilt to share in a mini-exhibition for the meeting. The New Quilt 2010 will take place at the Manly Art Gallery and Museum from 18 June until 25 July 2010 and there will be a colour catalogue generously sponsored by Brother International Australia.

Quilts at the Cathedral @ Goulburn: 13-14 March
