Colour City Quilters are our hosts this year for the annual "Away" or country meeting, being held this Saturday at 1pm at Calare Public School, Corner Wentworth Lane and Frost Street, Orange.
The "Show and Tell" display at the meeting will be The NSW Guild's Fertile Imagination Challenge Quilts.
Lucky door prizes will add to the fun of being with our country cousins.
Further to this, there will be a Quilt Exhibition in the Calare Public School Hall, showcasing quilts created by the young people of the area, as well as quilts made from a local "Block Swap Challenge"
The public can view this exhibition from 10am until 4pm on both the Saturday 31st and Sunday 1st April
Entry Fee to The Exhibition will be $5 which will include morning or afternoon tea.

In association with Expertise Events, the Guild arranged the Fertile Imagination Fabric Challenge. The collection of more than 70, 50 x 50cm quilts was exhibited for the first time at the Craft and Sewing Show at Rosehill earlier in March. The quilts will also be shown at the Newcastle Craft and Sewing Show (16-19 August) and the Guild meetings in March and May.
The 30th annual members' exhibition of the Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc, the Sydney Quilt Show 2012 runs from 13-17 June 2012. Please assist in promoting the show by adding the 2012 quilt show button to your blog or website. Here is the html code:

A gala day will be held as part of Yanco Agricultural High School's 90th anniversary celebrations. This will be held on Saturday 24 March, starting from 8.30am.
An exhibition of quilts will be displayed in the beautiful McCaughey mansion, which now used as the administration area for the school. There will be an entry fee through the gates but no other charge to see the quilts.
Yanco Agricultural High School is at 259 Euroley Road, Yanco, NSW.
Quilts at Mendelson exhibition will be held at Mendelson’s of Goulburn, 160 Sloane Street, Goulburn on 10 and 11 March. The guest exhibitor will be Beth Miller.
Entry is by gold coin donation, with proceeds going to Anglicare’s Emergency Accommodation program.

Note that although the free Airing of the Quilts is only held on Saturday, the two-day quilt competition exhibition will be on display Saturday 26 AND Sunday 27 November in the National Theatre, Wallace Street. There will be a $5 entry fee per day to this exhibition.
Bungendore Quilters also have their exhibition the same weekend in the Memorial Hall, on Molonglo Street aka the Kings Highway.

Good morning,
I am wondering if you are able to help me with an enquiry we have about a quilt which is currently in our collection. We do not have any information about who made the quilt or when it was donated to the Museum so I was therefore wondering if someone in your organisation had either seen the quilt before or knew someone who made this particular type of quilt. We are hoping to track down either the owner or the person who donated it to the Museum.
I have attached a picture of the quilt.
Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated, I realise this is very much a long shot!

This reversible jacket is based on the oldest known garment, the ‘Bog Coat’. The original was unearthed in a bog in Denmark in 1000BC. It has appeared in many countries over the centuries and is still a versatile garment. Make your jacket in colours and fabrics to enhance your wardrobe today. The jacket packs flat for travelling and provides those extra layers when the weather is cooler.
Day 1. Create the fabric for the jacket using quick piecing techniques.
Day 2. Assemble the jacket and perhaps wear it home.

The Guild committee has successfully negotiated a new business insurance policy which will provide public liability insurance for financial Member Groups.
There is no change to the Group Membership fee ($88.00) and no change to the benefits applicable for Group membership.
The policy will give Member Groups public liability insurance for all group meetings, workshops and exhibitions. The policy also has a provision for insurance of quilts at exhibitions.
It is not compulsory for Member Groups to participate in this insurance but many groups will find this to be an inexpensive alternative to existing insurance options.
To participate in this policy a group is required to pay a capitation fee of $5.00 for each NON guild member of the group. Group members who are financial individual members of the Guild will not pay the capitation fee.

Congratulations to two Guild members, Kay Haerland and Jenny Munday, whose works have been accepted for the exhibition.
Other entries are presented in the Overflow Exhibiton, organised by the Central Coast Art Society and held in the Imperial Shopping Centre in Gosford from 14 - 22 October.

This is a fabric challenge, where your quilt must be a finished size of 50x50cm.

Completed quilts and entry forms must be received in the Guild office by 20 February 2012.
The Novocastrian Quilters Inc Exhibition - Quilted Gems will be held on 8 & 9 October. It will feature members' quilts, challenge quilts, handmade goods and merchants' stalls. Entry is $5 and includes free workshops daily.

The 2011 Symposium will be hosted by the Quilt Study Group Victoria at The Immigration Museum, Old Customs House, 400 Flinders Street, Melbourne.
Keynote speakers include: Dr Annette Gero (quilt historian), Lynette Nilaweera (Geelong Wool Museum), Bronwyn Cosgrove (Conservator, NGV), Strathdale Quilters (1895 Heritage Signature Quilt) and Alan Tremain (To create, or recreate, is the question).

We were taken through a series of images of antique quilts,
their source details, Jennifer’s designs inspired by those quilts, and then we
were shown 2 to 3 examples of quilts made in her classes from her patterns. Jennifer
carefully explained exactly how each pattern was created and then varied for
each student. Many of her Australian quilt inspirations came from photographs
in Dr. Annette Gero’s books (the Frederica Josephson quilt, the Roebuck quilt,
the Sarah Evans quilt, Elizabeth Hardy’s 1840 quilt, Jessie Wilson’s 1870
Medallion with Heart quilt, Mary Tolman’s 1850s hexagon quilt), Jenny Manning’s
book and Aunt Clara’s quilt from the Powerhouse Museum. 
The Quilt Study Group of NSW is a Guild sub-committee that promotes interest and research into quilting, particularly in Australia. The next meeting will be held on 17 September, 2pm-4.30pm and will include afternoon tea.
Jennifer Corkish will talk about her inspiration when designing quilts and the process she follows for reproducing antique quilts. She will bring many of her quilts to illustrate the talk and some of her students will also be there with their quilts to show. Please bring along your own reproduction quilts for show and tell.

Announcing the challenge theme for 2012 - 'What the World Needs Now'.
Is it 'Love, Sweet Love', an end to the global financial crisis or carbon tax? Quilters are called to give their answers in a textile interpretation for this thought-provoking annual challenge.
Sponsored by Expertise Events and Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine, the AQC Challenge is run in conjunction with the annual Australasian Quilting Convention. The 2012 event will be held 12 - 15 April at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton, Melbourne.

Home of Jolanta in Germany has challenged all quilters to make a quilt in traditional patchwork with the theme RED worked into it. Deadline for entries is 6 September 2012, so there's plenty of time to sew.
There will be three prizes: one for international entries, one for German entries and the Best of Show. The exhibition quilts will be on display in the Blue Salon of the Kurhaus in Bad Lauterberg, Hauz, Germany from 2-14 October 2012.

Trish Bloomfield owns over 100 old quilts and quilt tops, most of
which she has bought over the internet. She came along with a sample of them to
show us and illustrate her talk on how to become a more discerning buyer of old
quilts. She started by showing us some quilts that were made in China and
represented as being antiques that she owns and uses as everyday quilts on her
bed. She said she has seen brand new US$50-60 quilts on e-bay being bid up to
US$500–600 so it was very good to hear this warning.

Here is an exciting new opportunity for textile artists to participate in a new travelling exhibition - Beneath the Southern Sky. Entries close on 25 January 2012.
The meeting was held to report on the progress of the help
that four committee members of the Quilt Study Group (Karen Fail, Annette Gero,
Sandra Lyons and Liz Bonner) have been giving the textile area of the Powerhouse Museum with research and documentation of
their quilts. In late 2010, we met Christina Sumner, the Principal Curator,
Design and Society, to discuss how we could help the Museum with its quilt
collection. Due to staff cutbacks, there was a need to improve the
documentation of the quilt collection and volunteers were needed to supplement
the work of that area, as they had already done in a previous project to
document the Museum’s rug collection.

The Quilters' Guild of NSW is proud to present its annual members' exhibition this week from 22-26 June in conjunction with the Craft & Quilt Fair at the Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour, Sydney. This exciting event opens at 9am on Wednesday, 22 June and everyone is invited to attend the awards ceremony at the special time of 11am.
We are delighted that Jennifer Sanders has agreed to curate this exhibition (formerly The New Quilt), which celebrates the 21st year of this contemporary quilt exhibition and The Quilters’ Guild of NSW’s 30th year. The exhibition will be based on the theme Regeneration.
In her acceptance of curatorship, Jennifer Sanders stated that "Regeneration gives us the opportunity to encourage and foster new forms of quilted textile art – work which draws on the traditional skills and expertise and then explores new territories of expression on the exhibition theme. I am committed to engaging the audience in the stories behind the quilts."
One of Jennifer Sanders’ proposals is the use of "individual display boxes for each work showing the artist’s sources of inspiration, photos, sketches; samples of their fabrics and techniques – any material which the artist believes will help convey to the audience the story behind the finished work." She believes that engaging the audience in the creative process and the stories behind the quilts will enhance their understanding and appreciation of the quilter's art.
This indeed will be a new and exciting approach. Jennifer Sanders continued, "The ideas we are exploring to keep in dialogue with the selected artists as the works are made should help make the Regeneration exhibition project one in which the development process yields rewards for all involved as much as does the final exhibition in 2012."
Regeneration, Contemporary Quilt Textiles 2012 will be held at Manly Art Gallery and Museum, 27 April to 4 June 2012.

Students' work from this workshop may be selected for exhibition at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2011 as part of Lisa's Scholarship Exhibition.
