Guild Teacher Accreditation Program

Teacher accreditation is a valuable service provided by the Guild. This is not a training program, but rather recognition of proven skills of present and future teachers. The Guild now offers three programs of teaching accreditation to Guild members:

  • Program A - this is the full three-stage program for those people considering teaching, or relatively new to teaching traditional patchwork and quilting. Participants need to demonstrate broad knowledge and good technical skills in the basics of drafting, template making, piecing and applique, quilting and finishing methods. (Application fee $60);
  • Program B - this is a fast tracking version of the above program for teachers of traditional quiltmaking and is available to those who have established careers as teachers and those holding accreditation from an interstate Guild. (Application fee $30); and
  • Program C - this program is for those teachers who specialise in various advanced techniques used in innovative, art or traditional quiltmaking, without ever teaching the basics of patchwork and quilting. Of course, the work demonstrated should still demonstrate a broad knowledge of basic techniques in assembly and finishing. (Application fee $30.) Award winning quilt artist Kay Haerland was recently accredited under Program C.
On successful completion of either Program A or Program B, the applicant will be awarded Accredited Teacher of Patchwork & Quilting. Those completing Program C will be awarded Accredited Teacher - Special Techniques.

See this brochure (57KB pdf) for more information or contact the Teacher Accreditation Coordinator.

25th Anniversary Calendar Quilt Challenge

To celebrate the guild's 25th anniversary in 2007, members are invited to make a small quilt, 12 inches square to be judged for inclusion in a calendar for 2008. Any subject and any techniques will be welcome. Send your masterpiece to the Guild office by 30 November 2006. Quilts will be on display at the 25th Sydney Quilt Show in June 2007 and the calendars for 2008 will be on sale. The quilts may then become another suitcase exhibition available to groups.
