Day 5: Sydney Quilt Show 2016

QuiltNSW welcomes you to fifth and final day of the Sydney Quilt Show 2016.  Sunday's program includes:

• displays by QuiltNSW member groups Northbridge Quilters and Eastern Suburbs Quilters
• 10am-12 noon: Meet the Teachers - Lynn Hewitt (Finishing Your Quilt) and Shirley Gibson (Hand Quilting)
• Kid Skills: 10am-12 noon and 1-3pm: A free activity introducing children to the delights of colour, fabric and block designs. This year there is the opportunity for kids to try sewing on a BERNINA machine,
• 11-12noon floor talk by special exhibitor Merelyn Pearce
• 2-4pm:  Meet the Teachers: Jan Foster (Machine Quilting) and Brenda Gael Smith (Creating with Felt)

• 10am-12 noon: Meet the Teachers -Therese Rankmore  (Creative Cutting) and Pam Furniss (Machine Applique and Quilt as you Go)

A free activity, operating Saturday& Sunday. Introducing children to the delights of colour, fabric and block designs. This year there is the opportunity for kids to try sewing on a BERNINA machine, Simply Red 215. Any patches sewn together will be made into a quilt for a children’s charity.

Sydney Quilt Show 2016 Prize Winners

Whizz Bang! Congratulations to Rachaeldaisy of the Blue Mountains who was presented with the BERNINA Best of Show award and first prize in the Mixed Techniques-Anything Goes category for her colourful creation.  In her own words:

My exploration of folded point blocks such as Pine Burr, Somerset Star, Pointed Star and an old Chinese folk quilt have resulted in a sampler that is a whizz bang explosion of colour, form and fun!

QuiltNSW invites you to experience the colour and excitement of Day 1 of the Sydney Quilt Show 2016 at Glebe Island (22 June 9am - 4.30pm). Highlights include:

Plan Your Visit to the Sydney Quilt Show

The quilts are in. Judging day is over. Set up is currently under way at Glebe Island (see the video below) and the Sydney Quilt Show 2016 opens tomorrow! Here are some tips to help you plan your visit.

Getting There

QuiltNSW welcomes you at the Sydney Quilt Show 22-26 June 2016: daily from 9am-4.30pm.

The show is at the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island 41 James Craig Road, Rozelle. Transport options include:

• FREE ferries from Darling Harbour (10 minutes) and Circular Quay (30 minute trip)
• FREE buses from Central Station (25 minute trip)
• DRIVE, TAXI or PRIVATE CAR. Park before 10am and save.
• PEDESTRIANS walking from public transport points can catch the FREE shuttle bus.

ALERT: If you are travelling by train on the Illawarra / South Coast lines, there will be trackwork on those lines on Saturday and Sunday, 25 and 26 June 2016.

Awards Ceremony: 1pm Wednesday

The awards ceremony is at the new time of 1pm on Wednesday 22 June 2016. A comprehensive online gallery of prize winning quilts will be posted on the QuiltNSW website soon after that. The results will also be shared on QuiltNSW Facebook page and Instagram.

In the meantime, you can download a copy of the Sydney Quilt Show Catalogue (1.8MB PDF).Find out where your quilt will be hanging, read about the special exhibits, look up the timetable for the Meet the Teacher demonstrations and more.

An abridged version of the catalogue is available at the show. If you have entered a quilt, you can collect your copy from the volunteer sign in desk. Remember to wear your exhibitor ribbon and/or membership badge.

Quilt Show Photography Policy

And don't forget to pack your camera or smartphone! You are welcome to take as many photos as you like of the exhibition for your own personal use. Posting your photos online is fine too so long as you have obtained consent from the quilt maker and include attribution. Please respect the copyright of our members. We look forward to a stream of colour, excitement and quilts on Instagram at #sydneyquiltshow.

Entries for the Sydney Quilt Show 2016 are now open!

QuiltNSW once again offers members an online option. This year we have a fully integrated Online Entry Form – payments are made by credit card through our secure ANZ portal and you’ll receive immediate email confirmation of your entry on payment. We encourage you to use the online method as it streamlines the payment and data collection process and allows our volunteers to better administer entries.

This is our last year exhibiting at the Glebe Island location for the Sydney Craft & Quilt Fair. Get involved, put the dates in your diary and bring a friend along this year to introduce them the wonderful, creative world of patchwork and quilting.

Prepare your entry early so that you know that it will be received by the closing date Monday 14 March 2016.
