30th Anniversary Photographic Book

Urgent Reminder
As advertised in The Template Feb 2013, a hardcover book of photos of all quilts in the 2012 Sydney Quilt Show has been produced.  This is indeed a professional publication and a delightful reminder of what was an extremely successful 30th anniversary members' exhibition. If you were an exhibitor or had any connection to last year's show, then this is a "must" for the coffee table or studio!

The final date for ordering of this lovely book has been extended to 28 March 2013.

The Order Form for this publication was in The Template.  Alernatively, you can download the Quilt Show 2012 Book Order Form as a PDF.

30th Anniversary Signature Coverlet

Can you help construct our coverlet please?
Many Guild members have this year donated signature blocks for this 30th Anniversary Commemorative Coverlet.
Blocks were on display at the Sydney Quilt Show in June, and all attendees were able to add their signature, for posterity.

These blocks have now been squared up and there are to be two sewing days for coverlet construction.

November 17th : Venue : Pegs Pieces, 138 Oak Road, Kirrawee.

November 26th : Venue : Meg Orr's home, 19/62 Norfolk Road, Epping.

Times: 10.30 - 3.00pm

Please bring your sewing machine, and lunch.
No need to sew all day, even to "pop-in" for a short session will be a huge help to the members who have been the stalwarts of this project.

Pearls of Wisdom

Enjoy hand-work?
Is your daytime favourite sewing chair no where near the night-time one?
Do you live in a multi story dwelling?
Do you have several projects on the go and the one you want is never where you want it?

Pearls of Wisdom :
Keep projects separate on a "$2 Shop" plastic tray, kitted out with the necessities for that project.
Cart the tray around to your special spots.
No more shameful gesticulation!

Neatness of tray projects for photographic purposes only

Sound Simple????
Well, how about contributing your simple but effective "Pearls of Wisdom" to the booklet that the Committee is hoping to collate during this "Pearl" 30th Year Anniversary?

Please contact the office of The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc. for inclusion of your "Pearls of Wisdom"

Unfortunately the "booklet" is not even a pamphlet at this stage!

Quilt Show Divas

The quilters were finished,
their fingers, quite numb,
Judges had judged
and quilts were now hung.

A soft buzz from the merchants
was all one could hear,
as Maree announced proudly
"It's our 30th Year!"

The sponsors were thanked
the excitement was clear,
With winners t'be announced,
doubtless misty, with tears.

Maree gave the mike
to those illustrious judges,
Attendees grew quiet,
but there were plenty of nudges!

Judge Number 3 said
"This year's been the best,
Your committee is tireless
New South Wales is blessed!

With Judge Number 2, we feel
we've had so much fun,
But the winners can be congratulated
by Judge Number 1"

She stepped to the dais,
Anxious entrants held their gasp,
Would't be their turn this year?
Or those winners from the past!

Two Curlewis Quilters,
their chins all a quiver,
nearly swallowed their dentures,
when announced.....'Collaborative' Winners!

Then, all but one ribbon
had been duly presented,
t'was now 'Best of Show' and
who knows what was expected?

The Show Hall fell quiet,.
everyone pricked up their ears,
Which glorious quilt's win
would cap this 'Pearly' year?

It was the most unexpected
of unexpected happenings,
The 'Best of Show' Rosette
was pinned, to loud clapping....

An 'Art' quilt Trapunto-ed
from two gals whom you know,
with seed pearls encrusted,
has won 'Best of Show' !

Good ol' Merle and Miss Shirl
already be-ribbonned
whispered "it cant be us....
the judge surely, is kidding?"

But Yes! They had Won....
Curlewis' Quilting Queens,
Their entry 'The Pearly Bride'
Hanging central to be seen.

"Magnificent", Maree cheered,
"Now let us once more clap,
such a fabulous Exhibition
from these ladies kiddies, and chaps"

So come to Darling Harbour
and attend THIS year's Quilt Show....
It's a 'Pearler' I tell you,
You've just got to go!

Signature Blocks

Committee members have been delighted by the response shown to the call for
Signature Blocks.
As outlined in The Template (February and May editions), a 30th Anniversary coverlet will be constructed from 1/2 square triangle blocks that have been made by members with their signature on one half.

Plain blocks are also requested so that visitors to The Sydney Quilt Show 2012 can add their names.
A small sample above shows the variety of fabrics being used, with a cream /off white triangle for a visitors signature.
The 'print' half of each block should display current fabric ranges, so as to reflect
'this moment in time'.
Please use a permanent ink pen, or embroidery to add your own name, and also check that the finished size of each block (once sewn into the coverlet) will be 4 inches.

Blocks will need to arrive in The Guild Office before 1 June or be delivered in person to the Guild Desk at The 2012 Sydney Quilt Show.

You are invited to take part in Quilting posterity!
