The New Quilt 2010: Artist Floor Talks

The New Quilt 2010: Contemporary Quilt Textiles exhibition continues at Manly Art Gallery & Museum until Sunday 25 July (open Tuesday-Sunday 10am - 5pm).  For extra insights into the exhibition, you are invited to join the artist floor talks at 3pm on Sunday, 18 July and 3pm, Sunday 25 July 2010.

Weekend Activities: 19 & 20 June 2010

The following activities take place each day this weekend Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 June at the Sydney Quilt Show:

  • 10am:  floor talk by guest exhibitor and Best of Show winner Kay Haerland;
  • 11.30 am: floor talk by guest exhibitor Gai Haines;
  • 2pm: floor talk by guest exhibitor and Best of Show winner Kay Haerland;
  • 10-11am, 12-1pm and 2-3pm demonstrations of techniques used in the Art to Wear garments; and
  • Kidskills: 10am and 1pm, a free activity aimed at introducing children to the delights of colour, fabric and block designs.
In addition, at 3pm, Sunday 20 June 2010, you are invited to join Dr Dianne Firth, exhibition curator for a floor talk about the exhibition and the selection process for The New Quilt 2010 Contemporary Quilt Textiles at Manly Art Gallery & Museum, the Esplanade, Manly.

Opening of The New Quilt 2010: 18 June-25 July 2010

The New Quilt 2010 is an exhibition of contemporary Australian quilt textiles presented by The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc in partnership with Manly Art Gallery & Museum. The exhibition will be launched officially on Friday 18 June at 6pm by its curator, leading textile artist and art academic Dr Dianne Firth, Associate Professor & Head of Landscape Architecture in the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Canberra.

Opening of the New Quilt 2010

The New Quilt 2010 is an exhibition of 26 contemporary quilt textiles presented by Manly Art Gallery & Museum  in partnership with The Quilters’ Guild of NSW, Inc.  Featured textile artists are:
Geri Barr, Mog Bremner, Anna Brown, Beryl Brooks, Marion Curry, Sue Dennis , Pamela Fitzsimons, Margery Goodall, Helen Gray, Camille Lord, Nichole Lubcke, Valentina Maximova, Thelma McGough, Deborah McArdle, Gloria Muddle, Alison Muir, Judi Nikoleski , John Parkes , Cath Phillips, Brenda Gael SmithGreg Somerville , Carolyn Sullivan and Ruth de Vos
The New Quilt 2010 opens at 10am on Friday 18 June (with an official opening event from 6-8pm) and continues until Sunday, 25 July 2010. The gallery is open Tuesday -Sunday (10am-5pm) and offers an comprehensive program of activities including a curatorial floor talk by Dr Dianne Firth at 3pm, Sunday 20 June 2010.

The New Quilt 2010:Entries close on 19 March

The New Quilt is a biennial juried exhibition of contemporary quilt textiles presented by the Guild in partnership with the Manly Art Gallery & Museum in which many of our country’s finest quiltmakers have shown their work since 1991.

The New Quilt 2010 will take place at the Manly Art Gallery and Museum from 18 June until 25 July 2010 and there will be a colour catalogue generously sponsored by Brother International Australia.


Entry is open to all quiltmakers regardless of whether or not they are Guild members. The closing date for entries is 19 March 2010. For further information:

One Month Until Closing Date for The New Quilt 2010



The New Quilt exhition will take place at the Manly Art Gallery & Museum from 18 June until 25 July 2010.

The New Quilt is an initiative of the Guild and the Manly Art Gallery & Museum and is held every two years. Entries are juried and selected for this exhibition and it has become one of the major events on the quilt exhibitions calendar not only for quilters but for anyone with an interest in cutting edge textiles.

Entry is open to all quiltmakers regardless of whether they are Guild members. The closing date for entries is 19 March 2010. For further information:

2010 Guild Exhibitions Entry Closing Dates

The Guild has a busy exhibition program for 2010. Here's a reminder of the relevant closing dates for entries:

  • Art to Wear 2010 - the theme is "Classic Oz Rocks" with a designated palette of ochre 70%, teal 15% & indigo 10% your choice 5%”. Entry is open to all individual Guild members. Download an entry form for Art to Wear 2010. Completed entry forms and associated materials must be received by 31 December 2009.
  • Sydney Quilt Show 2010 - entry forms will be posted to members in late January. Entries close on 1 March. See the December issue of the newsletter for details of categories; and
