2010 Quilt Show Raffle

Attention all Guild members, if you haven't already done so, please return raffle ticket monies or unused raffle tickets to the Guild office.  For everyone else, it's not too late to purchase your ticket in this year's raffle. Ticket are $2 each and available from the Guild office and at the Sydney Quilt Show. The fantastic 2010 Raffle Prizes are:

  • 1st Prize: Winner's choice of "Blue Mountains Rhapsody" raffle quilt or Bernina Aurora 440QE sewing machine valued at $3199, sponsored by Bernina;
  • 2nd Prize: The remaining item from above;
  • 3rd Prize: A collector's box of sewing threads sponsored by Perivale Gutermann;
  • 4th Prize: a Sew-Ezi table sponsored by the Just Patchwork;
  • 5th Prize: A magnifier lamp sponsored by the Scissorman; and
  • 6th Prize: 10 metres fabric sponsored by PK Fabrics.

QS 2010 Gala Dinner: Saturday 19 June

It's time to book your place at the Gala Dinner held as part of the Sydney Quilt Show 2010. Come along for great company and a sumptuous dinner as well as an inspiring presentation from guest speaker Jocelyne Leath

Burwood Meeting: 22 May 2010

Join us tomorrow for the general meeting at Burwood RSL and help raise funds for cancer research and the Biggest Morning Tea.  The program for 22 May includes:

  • 11am demonstration by Gai Rayner: Fabric colouring product-Liquid Radience from Genesis Creations
  • Shop: Patchwork Plus from Jackson Avenue Miranda NSW 2228. A generous quilt show sponsor.
  • Guest speaker: Brenda Gael Smith will share a slideshow presentation of works from the Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project together with insights of her experience belonging to a dynamic,online international art community.  Bring along your own 12x12in quilt to share.
Note the meeting will be held in the function rooms.  Turn left at the top of the stairs.

Social Meeting at Campbelltown: 16 May

The next Sunday social meeting for 2010 is this Sunday, 16 May. Judy, from the local shop, ‘Sew Many Stitches’ , will be our guest speaker.


The venue is Campbelltown Arts Centre. All members, and friends and interested persons, welcome. Gallery opens at 10.00am , Show and tell at 11.30, Café for lunch or bring your own, Guest Speaker, 1.00pm, Afternoon Tea provided, meeting closes at 3.00 pm, Gallery closes at 4.00pm. Wheelchair access, Sculpture Garden, Art Gallery, Japanese Garden.

Twelve by Twelve @ Gosford Regional Gallery

After their world premiere at the Australasian Quilt Convention, the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project will next be exhibiting at Gosford Regional Gallery from 28 May to 23 June 2010. One of the Australian "Twelves", Guild member Brenda Gael Smith is giving a floor talk at the gallery at 2pm on Saturday, 5 June.

In addition, Brenda is presenting an informative slideshow about Twelve by Twelve at the next Guild meeting at Burwood RSL on Saturday 22 May 2010. Visitors are welcome and everyone is encouraged to bringing along a 12x12in quilt to share in a mini-exhibition at the meeting.

NSW Shining Light: Freyah Howland-Davis

In conjunction with the Australasian Quilt Convention, Expertise Events presents a series of special awards to promote patchwork and quilting in Australia, and to encourage and recognise contributions made by individuals in the quilting world.  The Shining Light Award goes to a quilter under 18 years of age and is an encouragement award for junior quilters.  This year the Shining Light Award was presented to junior Guild Member, Freyah Howland-Davis.  Freyah won first prize in the Junior Quiltmaker B (13-18 years) category at the 2008 Sydney Quilt Show with this quilt entitled Log Cabin Dream.
