Rachaeldaisy Dodd Exhibition: Braemar Gallery until 11 April 2021

Head to the Blue Mountains for Into the Fold, an exhibition of quilts by Rachaeldaisy Dodd at Braemar Gallery:

  • Address: 104 Macquarie Road, Springwood, NSW 2777 Free entry
  • Exhibition dates: 18 March - 11 April 2021
  • Opening Hours: Thursday – Sunday | 10am – 4pm

Into the Fold looks at finding harmony between old and new through the art of quilt-making. Traditional techniques of fabric manipulation are studied and reinterpreted in a modern context. Concentric circles of folded fabric, gathered puffs, stitched details, repetitive geometry and balanced asymmetry all explore, develop, and expand the boundaries, but always with a nod to the roots of the craft. Through this exploration the works are taken from the conventional concept of pragmatism to the aesthetic, from the utilitarian blankets that quilts are known for, to artworks that be hung and appreciated for their concept as well as design.

Sydney Quilt Show 2021: Call for Entries

We were all disappointed to have to cancel the 2020 Sydney Quilt Show due to COVID-19 restrictions. In 2021, the pandemic continues to present challenging and uncertain conditions for event organisers but the outlook is promising. The QuiltNSW Exhibition Subcommittee has reviewed its policies and procedures to address COVID-safe protocols and to ensure we can deliver a show to the high standard we are all accustomed to within the scope of our volunteer resources.

Call for Entries

QuiltNSW is excited to invite members to celebrate creativity and to enter your quilt into a special 2021 edition of the Sydney Quilt Show.  Here are the highlights:
  • 1 quilt each - up to 320 quilts: our goal is to enable as many members as possible to participate. Each entrant may submit 1 quilt only and entries will be capped at 320 quilts. In recent years, there have been around 300 entrants per show and we hope these levels of participation continue. Share your quilt!
  • Online entry only: all entries must be submitted via the Online Entry Form. If you do not have access to the online entry and payment process, please contact sqsadmin@quiltnsw.com and provide your telephone number for assistance. Alternatively contact the QuiltNSW office on 9283 3737. If the office is unattended, please leave a message stating your name, contact number and that it is in regard to online entry for the Sydney Quilt Show.
  • New Exhibition dates: Wednesday 30 June to Sunday 4 July or such later dates as notified by QuiltNSW.
  • Postponement, Cancellation & Refunds: QuiltNSW may postpone or cancel the Sydney Quilt Show 2021 provided that any postponed show dates are no later than 1 October 2021. If the cancellation occurs before the quilts are received for judging, you will receive a full refund of the entry fee. If the cancellation occurs after the quilts are received for judging, no refunds are payable.
  • No Withdrawals: all entries must be available in show-ready condition for exhibition at the Sydney Quilt Show for the period up until 1 October 2021. Please choose your entry carefully. In fairness to all QuiltNSW members, no withdrawals are permitted.
  • Craft & Quilt Fair
    New Venue:
the Sydney Quilt Show 2021 will be presented in conjunction with the Craft & Quilt Fair in the Dome and adjacent halls at the Sydney Showgrounds at Homebush. Expertise Events, the event organiser and our partner, selected the new venue after receiving feedback that many people have found accessing the ICC at Darling Harbour difficult. The new venue is on ground level so no stairs, escalators or lift;  has public transport at the door; and there will be a special deal on pre-booked parking made available closer to the event.
  • Reduced Categories: as judging will be condensed from 2 days to 1 day, two smaller categories are not available for 2021: Category 12 Coverlets and Category 16 Two Person Collaborative Quilts.
  • Blue & White Deferred to 2022: The special Blue & White themed category is deferred to the 2022 show to be part of QuiltNSW’s 40th anniversary celebrations. You are welcome to enter a blue and white quilt in 2021 if you wish.
  • Prizes and Sponsorship: Principal sponsors, Expertise Events and BERNINA Australia, have committed to sponsorship at the Sydney Quilt Show 2021. Discussions with other potential sponsors are under way with a focus on the Special Awards and First Prizes. Many businesses have struggled with the pandemic and this may require some adjustment to range and value of prizes this year. All prize winners will receive a rosette. If you are interested in sponsoring an award or prize in 2021, please contact sponsorship manager Gail Sadleir at sponsorship@quiltnsw.com
  • Volunteering: Volunteering is not mandatory in 2021 as we recognise that some entrants may have concerns about gatherings and COVID-19. However, as in past years, we will be relying on volunteers to set up and run the show so all assistance is greatly appreciated. The Volunteer Form will open in early May 2021.
We hope you understand the need for the changes this year as we strive to provide a safe environment for all visitors to the Sydney Quilt Show and our wonderful volunteers who make this event possible. We look forward to celebrating creativity together and seeing your beautiful quilts. No matter what kind of quilts you make, there's a place for it in the Sydney Quilt Show 2021.
