Sydney Quilt Show - one week to go!
The Sydney Quilt Show is an annual members' exhibition presented by The Quilters' Guild of NSW Inc in conjunction with the Craft & Quilt Fair at the Sydney Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, Sydney. The doors open at 9am on Wednesday 16 June 2010 with an official opening and awards ceremony at 9.30am.
Highlights of the Sydney Quilt Show in 2010 include
- an exhibition of around 300 member quilts;
- What Tickles Your Fancy 2010 Guild challenge quilts;
- Art to Wear 2010 - Classic Oz Rocks extraordinary garments in a palette of ochre (70%), teal (15%), indigo (10%) and the artist's choice of colour (5%). Demonstrations of techniques featured in the Art to Wear garments will take place daily: 10-11am, 12-1pm and 2-3pm;
- Art to Wear Retrospective Guest Exhibitor - Cheryl Bridgart;
- Best of Australia quilts sponsored by Bernina;
- a selection of traditional style quilts by guest exhibitor Gai Haines - daily floor talk at 11.30am;
- a selection of pictorial quilts by guest exhibitor and Guild accredited teacher Kay Haerland - twice daily floor talks at 10am and 2pm;
- Snapshots an exhibition of contemporary quilts by ZIG ZAG ;
- Community Quilts - demonstrations of the process of making a quilt from start to finish will take place in the community quilts demonstration area throughout the show; and
- Kidskills: Saturday 19 June 10am and 1pm and Sunday 20 July 10am and 1pm. The Sydney Quilt Show is a source of inspiration for many a would-be quiltmaker including children. The weekend "Kidskills" program is a free activity aimed at introducing children to the delights of colour, fabric and block designs.
